COLLEGE PRESENTATIONS PAGE
Students will need to prepare a presentation on a particular college or university in the spring I will present the United States Military Academy at West Point After I present West Point to students, I will walk them through the process of creating their own Google Slides presentation on their school of choice as I start to create another presentation on the University of Montana. Students will have plenty of time in class to work on this task, but they will also need to practice presenting the school to their classmates. This has been a very exciting assignment for students over the past few years, and I look forward to what your children come up with. Creativity is huge!
Dates, Directions on the Assignment, Rubric, and Samples are included down below.

A sample google slides presentation that students need to complete and present to their classmates
Critique On Miller's Presentation:
The Google Slides presentation here is longer than students will need to do. My presentation is particularly long in slides, videos, and with pictures crammed in, but I am also quite happy it. This is my fourth version, or rough draft, so perhaps a 5th version would show a more concise edited final draft. The United States Military Academy has such a long history and is uniquely different from other colleges and universities, so I dedicated more pages to represent it to students. I broke some of the general rules in creating my "slides." A big rule I broke in my presentation is that it is too wordy. "No more than 30 words per slide." Haha. |
Please see the "Top Eight Rules for Creating a PowerPoint, Google Slides, Presentation" below. |
Top Eight Rules for Creating a PowerPoint Presentation
1. Remember that you are the presenter. Don’t read the slides.
2. Keep text to a minimum (6-8 lines per slide, no more than 30 words per slide). Write in sentence fragments using key
words, and keep your font size 24 or bigger.
3. Stay away from weird colors and busy backgrounds. Use easy-to-read fonts such as Arial and Times New Roman.
4. Make sure they can read it before you begin.
5. Leave out the sound effects and background music.
6. Stick with simple animations if you use them at all.
7. Proofread, proofread, proofread.
8. Practice, practice, practice.

The Google Slides presentation on the United States Military Academy at West Point was created for the class of 2024, and illustrates a presentation that is thoughtful but crammed full of information. I included lots of information on Benedict Arnold, and perhaps took too much space on the history of the campus. The Point's history and the large group of highly influential leaders graduating are my favorite components about the campus, so I over did it. Haha.
